Land to the east of Stane Street, Billingshurst, West Sussex: an archaeological evaluation

Nine trenches were opened mechanically under archaeological supervision and potentially archaeological features investigated by hand. Seven of the nine trenches contained archaeological features although most were undated. A pit and at least one ditch represent the presence of a rural settlement of early Roman date. Some limited early post-medieval activity was also noted along with a few prehistoric struck flints.
