Case summary reveals cardiogenic shock due to coronary dissection in a young patient, indicating urgency in treatment.
BACKGROUND: Traumatic coronary artery dissection is an uncommon yet catastrophic sequela of blunt chest trauma, posing significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, particularly in young patients without pre-existing coronary disease. CASE SUMMARY: A 16-year-old male adolescent presented after an electric bicycle accident with severe polytrauma and developed unexpected cardiogenic shock. Investigation revealed a left main coronary artery dissection extending into the proximal left anterior descending artery. Despite emergency coronary artery bypass grafting and full mechanical circulatory support, he succumbed to complications. TAKE-HOME MESSAGES: High-energy deceleration alone can cause coronary dissection. Early suspicion and multidisciplinary approach for managing this life-threatening condition is crucial.
