Metoprolol and amiodarone successfully restore normal sinus rhythm in a patient with wide complex tachycardia.
Case Report (n=1)
This case highlights the critical importance of urgently recognizing ventricular tachycardia and differentiating it from its mimics to ensure appropriate and potentially life-saving management.
May prompt closer ECG scrutiny in wide complex tachycardia; leaves open clinical impact pending validation.
CASE BACKGROUND: A 53-year-old woman with no prior cardiac history presented with progressive dyspnea weeks after influenza and had signs of tachycardia. Electrocardiography showed a wide complex tachycardia with features of ventricular tachycardia. She was treated with metoprolol for rate control, and amiodarone restored normal sinus rhythm. TAKE-HOME MESSAGES: Ventricular tachycardia is a potentially fatal arrhythmia that needs urgent recognition and management. This electrocardiographic challenge shows the importance of recognizing ventricular tachycardia and differentiating it from its mimics.
