Complications after arteriography may reflect disease progression rather than procedure; hypothesis-generating for risk attribution in observational cohorts.
Are complications following arteriography actually iatrogenic or a natural progression of the patient's primary disease?
The incidence of serious and fatal complications following arteriography is nearly identical to the incidence of complications from the primary disease occurring just prior to scheduled procedures, suggesting many alleged procedural complications may actually reflect the natural history of the underlying disease.
