During the ensuing 12 months, we will publish updated Practice Guidelines that were originally published in 2000 as a supplement to the Journal of Burn Care and Rehabilitation. The revised and updated recommendations represent the work of the 2004 to 2006 Committee on the Organization and Delivery of Burn Care. To facilitate access to these valuable resources for clinical care, we have decided in consultation with Dr. Richard Gamelli (Editor in Chief) and the 2006 Board of the American Burn Association to publish these guidelines as referenced and authored manuscripts rather than as a separate supplement to the Journal. With this reevaluation, we have attempted to update the Practice Guidelines with current references to Class I Evidence whenever possible. In addition to the original 13 standards, we will also roll out current standards for electrical burn management, pain management, toxic epidermal necrolysis, ventilator acquired pneumonia, glucose control, and use of skin substitutes.
