Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a key technology for Logistics 4.0. AI enables the digital transformation of logistics processes through automation, data-driven decision-making, and real-time optimization. Although a growing body of research examines AI applications in logistics, the existing findings are fragmented across functional areas and technologies. This systematic literature review uses the PRISMA methodology to synthesize recent research and evaluate the impact of AI on modern-day logistics. The results demonstrate that AI significantly enhances seven core areas: cost, automation, route optimization, warehouse management, customer service, sustainability, and risk management. AI improves the efficiency, resilience, and responsiveness of logistics systems by enabling predictive analytics and real-time monitoring. This study provides a comprehensive, process-oriented framework of AI applications and highlights critical research gaps in scalability, data integration, energy efficiency, and workforce adaptation. These findings offer practical insights for practitioners and a strategic roadmap for future research on AI-driven logistics.
