Purpose The aim of this study is to test the mediating role of employee green motivation between green human resource management (GHRM) practices and organisational environmental performance relationship. Design/methodology/approach A total of 358 manufacturing employees were surveyed via a structured questionnaire. The obtained data were analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Findings The four GHRM practices, such as green recruitment and selection, green training and development, green health and safety and green compensation and reward are strongly related to green motivation of employees. In addition, the relationship between GHRM and the environmental performance of an organisation is mediated by employee green motivation. Originality/value The research provides an original contribution, which explains the intervening nature of employee green motivation between the GHRM practices and environmental performance in the manufacturing industry.
