The Russian Urban Wedding Ritual in the Late Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Centuries

Beginning in 1964 the Sector of East Slavic Ethnography of the Institute of Ethnography, Academy of Sciences, USSR, began to conduct systematic study of urban culture and daily life in the past (midnineteenth century to early twentieth century) and present. The program of this research includes the entire sphere of intellectual culture and social relationships and, in particular, study of the urban wedding ritual as one of the most interesting aspects of folk life.
