This paper argues that the world’s picture of the Indian press, delivered through the English-language newspapers, does not reflect reality. It points out that the largest selling papers and magazines in every Indian state are those of the vernacular press. It concludes that to recognize Asian values in journalism we need to rely more on our own sources and media instead of picking up Eastern stories from Western media and ‘representing’ their historical biases about Asia as Asian reality.
