Numerical modeling reveals correlated seismic damage patterns across regional bridges, highlighting shared network vulnerabilities under standardized design guidelines.
Bridges in a regional transportation network are generally designed following similar design guidelines, usually those developed by the local Department of Transportation. This, in turn, makes the seismic performance of these bridges similar. The Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research (PEER) Center framework for probabilistic performance-based seismic evaluation involves the sub-models of hazard intensity measure (IM), engineering demand parameter (EDP), damage measure (DM), and decision variable (DV) for individual structures. Further, in 2013, a model consistent with the PEER framework is proposed. The aim of the present paper is to present the numerical approach for the investigation of bridge seismic performance correlation following the PEER framework. And further, some case study would be illustrated to verify the correlation model.
