Intensity Measures of Ground Motions for Estimating Nonlinear Response of Bridges with Dampers

Selection of the optimal intensity measure of ground motions for estimating the nonlinear response of bridges with the damper between the abutment and the superstructure subjected to near-field ground motions were investigated based on incremental dynamic analysis. As a result, it was shown that the optimum intensity measure of ground motions varies with the natural period of the structural system and the combination of yield lateral coefficients of the columns and dampers even if the peak nonlinear response of the bridge columns under the design ground motions is same.
