The present study sought to extend previous theory and research on pay comparisons. Five general pay comparison dimensions, and three pay components, were identified a priori. A sample (n = 127) of white collar workers rated the importance of each dimension (3 items/dimension) for each pay component. The relationships among these ratings, and the predictability of the ratings with numerous personal characteristics, were examined.
