This paper gives a general overview and presents some preliminary results of an interdisciplinary project started in 2022, whose purpose is to document, study, preserve, and promote the Pompeian musical instruments kept in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (Italy). Specific attention is paid to the origin of this collection on the basis of archival investigations, which help shed light on the pathways of musical artefacts from excavation sites to museum acquisition, as well as to scientific analyses of the material components of some Roman tibiae , which can contribute to explain their construction techniques.
