Key result
Habitual aerobic exercise promotes brain health, mediated at least in part by improvements in cardiovascular function, though the dose-response relationship requires further elucidation.
Why the study?
Does regular aerobic exercise improve brain health via cardiovascular adaptation?
Does regular aerobic exercise improve brain health via cardiovascular adaptation?
Regular aerobic exercise may improve brain health through cardiovascular adaptations, with a potential hormetic dose-response relationship.

May support aerobic exercise counseling for brain health; leaves open optimal dose-response via cardiovascular mechanisms.
In Brief Regular aerobic exercise improves brain health; however, a potential dose-response relationship and the underling physiological mechanisms remain unclear. Existing data support the following hypotheses: 1) exercise-induced cardiovascular adaptation plays an important role in improving brain perfusion, structure, and function, and 2) a hormetic relation seems to exist between the intensity of exercise and brain health, which needs to be further elucidated. Habitual aerobic exercise promotes brain health, which is mediated at least in part by improvement in cardiovascular function.

Tarumi et al. (2015) conducted a review in Brain health. Regular aerobic exercise was evaluated. Habitual aerobic exercise promotes brain health, mediated at least in part by improvements in cardiovascular function, though the dose-response relationship requires further elucidation.
