Study assessed archaeological features in Wiltshire, highlighting the area's historical context.
The evaluation fieldwork comprised the excavation of 18 trenches, each measuring 25m in length by 1.9m in width. The trenches were located to test the previously identified geophysical anomalies and to provide a representative sample of the remainder of the site. During the course of the evaluation, Trench 12 was relocated from the location defined in the WSI to the northern part of the site, which had been previously occupied by a construction compound. In February 2026, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of land off Turnpike Close, Semington, Wiltshire. A total of 18 trenches was excavated. No archaeological features or deposits, excepting furrows associated with medieval or later cultivation, were identified and no artefactual material was observed or recovered. A single tree throw pit, was identified in a trench excavated in the central part of the site.
