Archaeological monitoring records structural features during renovations at Brompton Mill Barn, indicating historical usage.
In May 2025 Heneb: Clwyd-Powys Archaeology were instructed by the client to undertake archaeological monitoring and recording within the barn located at Brompton Mill. The works involved the monitoring of the removal of a modern cobble floor and the reduction of the floor level within the barn, prior to renovation works. The works involved the monitoring of the removal of a modern cobble floor and the reduction of the floor level within the barn, prior to renovation works. A line of four postholes were present beneath the cobbles, with a fifth isolated posthole present outside of this line. One posthole had the remnants of its post still present. The size and position of the postholes and a stony surface they delineated, suggest that it was a former division or fence within the barn as opposed to an actual structural feature.
