Geophysical survey reveals archaeological features in Norfolk, highlighting historical land use patterns.
Between 18th and 19th November 2019, Archaeological Solutions Ltd carried out a magnetic gradiometer survey land west of The Street, Sporle, Norfolk (NGR Site 1 TF 84825 10600; Site 2 TF 85520 09960). The project was carried out at the request of Norfolk County Council Historic Environment Service (NCC HES). The survey results identified 18 discrete positive anomalies (1) indicative of cut and infilled pit type features or pit clusters and an area of possible ridge and furrow cultivation (2) in the NW of the site. A positive linear anomaly (3) running NNW-SSE across the site corresponds with a historic boundary depicted on the 1884 OS map. A large area on the eastern side of the survey showed disturbance from modern activity.
