Archaeological evaluation identifies potential railway cutting in Nuneaton, suggesting future site importance.
A seven trench evaluation was undertaken at the former Manor Park School in Nuneaton ahead of demolition of the existing school buildings and erection of a care facility and of up to 46 houses and 12 flats. 1.5 The work was carried out in accordance with The Chartered Institute for Archaeologists' Standard for archaeological field evaluation (CIfA 2023). A very long, flat bottomed, hollow was identified in four trenches which had been deliberately backfilled in the 19th century with waste material such as stoneware jars, glass bottles, and ash. Although no unambiguous evidence was recovered, it is likely that earthwork(s) represent a former railway cutting.
