Investigates archaeological features in Wicklewood, highlighting preservation conditions.
In September 2013 Archaeological Solutions Ltd (AS) carried out an archaeological monitoring and recording at Kecalde, 65 Church Lane, Wicklewood, Norfolk (NGR: TG 0705 0230). The monitoring was undertaken in compliance with a planning condition attached to planning permission for the construction of a dwelling (South Norfolk District Council Planning reference 2012/0502/F). The site is located within the historic medieval core of Wicklewood village, close to the medieval parish church. The project therefore had good potential to encounter settlement evidence dating to the medieval and post-medieval periods. In the event, the monitoring and recording encountered no archaeological features or finds. The stratigraphy appeared intact and the natural geology was not disturbed; had archaeological remains been present they would likely have been preserved. That said, the area of monitoring was small and, therefore, the probability of revealing remains was slight.
