An archaeological watching brief was undertaken in order to fulfil condition 2 of planning permission for the demolition of an existing garage, rebuilding of a new garage, widening of driveway and construction of a shed, garden room and raised patio area. The north-eastern half of the proposed development area lay within the boundary of the Frontiers of the Roman Empire (Antonine Wall) World Heritage Site. Archaeological monitoring of groundworks and service trenches revealed no significant archaeological remains. A possible small section of the Antonine Wall had been recorded in 1974 as being exposed within the garden and incorporated into a rockery. The stones remain visible and in good condition, however, it is unclear whether they relate to the southern kerb Antonine Wall or are a modern garden feature.
