Excavations elucidate defensive and domestic activities in Iron Age and Hellenistic periods at Khirbat al-Mukhayyat.
The 2017, 2019, and 2023 seasons of the Khirbat al-Mukhayyat Archaeological Project focused on the area south of the site’s acropolis (Fields A and B). Excavations succeeded in elucidating the defensive and domestic activities of Mukhayyat’s residents during the Iron Age and Hellenistic periods. A full stratigraphic sequence for Field B has been established, and the unique and uneven nature of the bedrock in Field A has been revealed. The results of these field seasons provide further evidence of Mukhayyat’s importance in this region throughout antiquity.
