Monitoring of ground excavation reveals modern layers without archaeological finds in York.
Ground reduction was undertaken by hand across an area of approximately 6m to a depth of 0.30m below ground level. The works revealed a sequence of modern deposits comprising a tiled yard surface and underlying levelling layers associated with the construction and later modification of the 19th century terrace. No archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were identified, and natural geology was not encountered within the depth of excavation.
