Proposed systematic anatomical terminology for the LV summit facilitates knowledge exchange for arrhythmia ablation.
Why the study?
The left ventricular summit is a source of ventricular arrhythmias posing high difficulty for radiofrequency ablation, requiring systematic anatomical terminology to facilitate knowledge exchange.
Standardizing the anatomical terminology of the left ventricular summit may facilitate better communication and understanding for electrophysiologists performing radiofrequency ablation of ventricular arrhythmias.
May aid LV summit ablation communication; extends nomenclature but leaves open prospective validation.
In recent times the left ventricular summit (LVS) has become an interesting heart region. This triangular epicardial area is a ventricular arrhythmias source with a high level of difficulty for radiofrequency ablation. Providing systematic and comprehensive anatomical terminology of the LVS region may facilitate the exchanging of information among anatomists and electrophysiologists, increasing knowledge over this heart region. We will provide new anatomical terminology such as the apex of the left ventricular summit, arcuate line, septal margin, and mitral margin, as well as present a recent state of basic – scientific knowledge from this heart region.

Kuniewicz et al. (2020) conducted a review in Ventricular arrhythmias. Systematic anatomical terminology for the left ventricular summit, including the apex, arcuate line, and septal/mitral margins, is proposed to facilitate knowledge exchange for arrhythmia ablation.
