A method for the approximate solution of some transport problems is presented. The procedure is applied and an approximate solution obtained for the steady-state, elastic scattering of neutrons in an infinite plane slab of finite thickness and arbitrary composition. The convergence of the approximate solution to the exact solution in the appropriate limit is demonstrated. It is shown that the approximate solution is stable with respect to the growth of small errors introduced by approximating the inhomogeneous source terms. (W.D.M.)
