Abstract

At a recent event commemorating the 100th anniversary of the University of Pretoria (UP), the 90th anniversary of the HSRCs forerunner, the National Bureau of Education (1929), and the 50th anniversary of the HSRC, the HSRCs CEO Prof Crain Soudien argued that the formative years of the two parallel institutions were critical to understanding the social sciences in South Africa today.
