A Method of Generating Best Asymptotically Normal Estimates with Application to the Estimation of Bacterial Densities

Various minimum ² methods used for generating B. A. N. estimates are summarized, and a new method which generates B. A. N. estimates as roots of certain linear forms is introduced and investigated. As a particular application of the method, the estimation of the bacterial density in an experiment using dilution series is considered.
