75-year old woman with persistent methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteremia was found to have a descending thoracic mycotic aneurysm, initially identified on 2-deoxy-2-F-18fluoroglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) and further characterized on computed tomographic angiography (CTA). Infection was related to a combination of underlying atherosclerosis and an automatic-implantable cardiac defibrillator (AICD) that required explant due to MRSA infected leads.
