Anti-inflammatory treatment yields rapid recovery from pleural-predominant post-cardiac injury syndrome following radiofrequency ablation.
Why the study?
Post-cardiac injury syndrome is an underrecognized inflammatory complication of atrial fibrillation ablation that can mimic acute coronary syndrome.
Case Report (n=1)
Post-cardiac injury syndrome is an underrecognized complication of atrial fibrillation ablation that can mimic acute coronary syndrome but responds rapidly to anti-inflammatory treatment.
Supports anti-inflammatory approach for post-ablation PCIS; hypothesis-generating and should not yet change practice.
Post-cardiac injury syndrome (PCIS) is an underrecognized inflammatory complication of atrial fibrillation ablation that can mimic acute coronary syndrome. We present a 72-year-old man who developed pleuritic chest pain and pleural effusions 3 days after radiofrequency ablation. Using the 2025 European Society of Cardiology diagnostic criteria, we identified pleural-predominant PCIS. Anti-inflammatory treatment led to rapid recovery.

He et al. (2026) conducted a case report in Post-cardiac injury syndrome (PCIS) (n=1). Anti-inflammatory treatment was evaluated. Anti-inflammatory treatment led to rapid recovery in a 72-year-old man who developed pleural-predominant post-cardiac injury syndrome 3 days after radiofrequency ablation.
