Survey assesses infection prevention education in nursing homes, revealing significant gaps in knowledge and skills.
This study aimed to clarify the status of infection prevention and control (IPC) education in nursing homes (NHs) during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. An anonymous, self-administered questionnaire survey was administered to 500 educators and 1,500 learners working at 500 randomly selected NHs in Japan. A total of 154 participants (response rate 7.7%) were included in the analysis. Educators varied in their approach to teaching countermeasures against COVID-19. Additionally, only 10% of learners reported having a good grasp of knowledge and skills on IPC measures. Supporting IPC training in NHs is necessary.
