Abstract

Land snails are one of the most threatened groups of animals worldwide. Despite Australia boasting a rich diversity of land snails, its fauna is poorly represented in conservation. In Victoria, the land snail diversity of the Mornington Peninsula has never been formally documented, despite general ongoing threats to biodiversity within the region. In this preliminary study, nineteen species are documented, fourteen of which are figured with photographs of shells and/or live animals, and at least three are likely undescribed. The conservation concerns for these potentially undescribed species and the need for comprehensive surveying are discussed.
