This article describes datasets estimating emissions and atmospheric concentrations of CO2 and CH4 over Korea, suggesting valuable insights into carbon dynamics.
This article describes a gridded dataset of quarterly mean posterior emissions and atmospheric mole fractions of CO 2 and CH 4 over the Korean Peninsula for 2019 and 2020. The data were generated with the WRF-Chem (v4.4)/DART (v9.8.0) regional inversion framework at 9 km × 9 km horizontal resolution. This inversion framework assimilates high-precision in situ CO 2 and CH 4 observations from WMO/GAW stations using an ensemble adjustment Kalman filter. The released archive contains gas-specific NetCDF files. The CO 2 emissions files include sector-resolved posterior anthropogenic CO 2 emissions, an aggregated posterior CO 2 emission field with its uncertainty, terrestrial ecosystem carbon exchange variables (ecosystem respiration, gross ecosystem exchange, net ecosystem exchange), and ocean CO 2 exchange. The CH 4 emissions files include sector-resolved posterior anthropogenic CH 4 emissions and an aggregated posterior CH 4 emission field with its uncertainties. Separate concentration files provide quarterly mean three-dimensional atmospheric CO 2 and CH 4 mole fraction fields on 51 vertical levels over the same domain. The dataset is distributed through zenodo and is organized to support reproducible access to posterior flux and concentration products. These data can be reused for comparison with bottom-up greenhouse gas inventories, development of higher-resolution inversion systems, assessment of COVID-19 pandemic period changes on regional emission patterns, examination of CH 4 -to-CO 2 emission relationships, and regional-scale evaluation of atmospheric concentration fields over East Asia.
