With the rise of disposable income in a booming economy, overseas travel has become a way of life for many Hong Kong people. In 1992, around 2.2 million Hong Kong residents traveled overseas. Relatively speaking, the outbound travelers form Hong Kong have received much less attention compared with its inbound tourist in terms of understanding their travel motivation and preferences. The objective of this article is to examine Hong Kong residentsÆ perceived important of destination attributes and their relationship with socio-demographic variables. The preferred modes of travel are also investigated.
