Hematological malignant neoplasms are a group of diseases characterized by the complexity of diagnosis, which requires the doctor to know clinical and laboratory indicators. The case of acute myeloid leukemia in a 78-year-old patient is presented. The diagnosis was made in the therapeutic department within 14 days, and a sternal puncture, myelogram evaluation, cytochemical examination, and immunophenotyping allowed for a reliable diagnosis of the M4 variant. The patient's age and concomitant diseases were identified as unfavorable prognostic factors. The patient's leukemia was treated with the LDAraC (cytarabine) regimen, which had a positive but short-lived effect.
