As a research-creation project, Reverb-Resonate grapples with techno-augmentation in real-time performance settings where migration and exile are framed as ineffable experiences to create ‘atmospheric conditions’ in order for the affective intensities of such experiences to be made felt. In doing so, the project moves across human-machine assemblages to ponder their generative capacities to build critical media conditions. It thus examines different possibilities for creating affective atmospheres mainly relying on the transformation of biosensor data to acoustic events–from longitudinal personal data to streaming data within live events across participants. On a practical level, the project engages biosensing and its affordance for relatability to transform real-time data into generative sound, and in the recent experiment data-responsive video. Through these experiments formulated as ‘cybernetic feedback loops’, the project aims to facilitate a shared exploration of affective states centered on my lived experience of migration and exile. Meanwhile, it illuminates the reciprocal influence between individual and collective expression through intermingling the physiological with the aesthetic in co-creation.
