Case study analysis of textbook research highlights common patterns and implications for future studies.
This paper takes four research studies on Chinese secondary school textbooks of late Qing and Republican periods in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology as case studies. It analyzes the dimensions through which they review the current state of research, as well as their research questions, research methods, theoretical perspectives, and the structure of their arguments. The analysis reveals common patterns in their approaches to textbook development, knowledge presentation, foreign influences, and localization, alongside disciplinary variations. Based on the case study analysis, the paper concludes with implications for future research.
