Neology can be understood as the creation, adaptation and subsequent diffusion of new lexical units in a language. In spite of being a subject that has been addressed by different authors, the continuous alternations and innovations that occur in the lexicon due to society evolution mean that any proposed study can have a novel scope. In this sense, the main purpose of this article is to addresse the consequences that COVID-19 has had on the Spanish lexicon. To show this, once the neology phenomenon is contextualized (origin, evolution, typology), an analysis of a corpus derived from several national media (e.g., El País, La Vanguardia, Antena 3 Noticias website) will be presented, which will allow us to make conclusions about neologisms.
