English as a Global Language: Benefits and Challenges for Non-Native Students

This research project investigates the dual nature of English as a global lingua franca and its specific impact on non-native speaking students. The study explores how widespread English proficiency unlocks critical opportunities in academic access, global mobility, and international career trajectories. Concurrently, it analyzes the significant challenges students face, including linguistic imperialism, psychological pressure, and socio-economic inequality. By examining both sides, the project aims to demonstrate the need for a shift toward functional communication rather than native-centric standards in modern education. Ultimately, the research provides a balanced, literature-based analysis of how the global language functions as both an empowering tool and an institutional barrier.
