This paper concerns a project that was two years in its genesis and will be ten years in its execution: the conservation and restoration of a 1930s wooden cathedral model using the techniques that were used originally to construct the model. The main craft techniques are akin to pattern‐making and cabinet‐making, but in their fineness are unique to timber model‐making. This paper also describes recruiting people with the right skills in an area where formal qualifications are not available.
