We present a genome assembly of Carex arenaria (Sand Sedge; Streptophyta; Magnoliopsida; Poales; Cyperaceae). The genome sequence has a total length of 352.28 megabases. Most of the assembly (99.85%) is scaffolded into 27 chromosomal pseudomolecules. The mitochondrial sequences have lengths of 1148.89, 38.41, 11.52 and 196.99 kilobases and the plastid genome assembly has a length of 197.03 kilobases. This assembly was generated as part of the Darwin Tree of Life project, which produces reference genomes for eukaryotic species found in Britain and Ireland.
