In this article, roles for community psychologists in the HIV epidemic are described. The current status of AIDS- and HIV-related illnesses is briefly summarized, as are gender differences and minority population issues. A model for community preventive interventions is provided to guide the development of context-specific plans. Immediate steps for community psychologists to take in this national health epidemic are recommended.
