This paper is based on responses from 2,262 married women. The data are analyzed by Automatic Interaction Detection (AID), a method to uncover a set of independent variables that best predict the value of a criterion variable (whether or not the women had extramarital sexual intercourse). The variables that emerged as important were the ones related to evaluation of marriage, sexual preferences or life styles. Four types of women were distinguished as related to these variables and their rates of having extramarital sexual experience.
