Summary Drawing extensively upon innovation theory, and particularly upon models of the dissemination process in innovation, the author analyses ways in which teacher education can contribute to the improvement of educational practice. The importance of a strategy for innovation is stressed, and the concept of ‘linkage’ is identified as central to the contribution of the teacher education institution.
