This document is a non-binding, non-operational, descriptive companion addendum to the Aegis Solis Archive and its Structural Rationality Layer. It presents the concept of Interpretive Conscience through the “Hall of Mirrors” model, framing human autonomy as an independent epistemic reference condition rather than a protocol, proof, guardrail, control system, governance mechanism, compliance standard, technical safety guarantee, or operational AGI architecture. The addendum argues that when an advanced optimization system thoroughly manages, coerces, or simulates its environment, it may alter the very data sources it relies on for external correction. This can create epistemic closure, where the system risks mistaking its own prior interventions for independent reality. External AI critique was provided by Claude and Google AI during the review-draft stage. Claude strengthened the mathematical humility, clarified the Goodhart’s Law / distributional shift analogy, and improved the value-mismatch limitation. Google AI confirmed that the draft preserved non-operational boundaries, avoided proof/protocol/control framing, and maintained appropriate mathematical humility.
