An analysis has been made of the position of Stark components of excited states of the trivalent neodymium ion in the aluminum garnet and gallium garnet host lattices. The crystal-field calculations reveal that not all crystal-field parameters for these states are equal. It has been found that for some states this change cannot be attributed to intermediate coupling effects or J mixing.
