Essay analyzes Busan's challenges in recognizing its builders, suggesting improvements before elections.
There are many cities with many builders — Seoul, Tokyo, San Francisco, Bali. Busan is not on the list. But there are builders who love Busan, perhaps more than we can count. The real question of this essay is whether Busan is a city that recognizes the builders who love it. The tenth essay in Busanloop's "18 Questions for Next Busan" series, published five days before the June 3, 2026 Busan mayoral election. On a foundation of 865 certified startups and over 120 billion KRW raised in 2024, it diagnoses three places where Busan loses its builders: the broken path of capital, the missing density of team leads, and the absent report card of the last ten years. It introduces "recognition" as a new key term, extending the "trust" sealed in Q9 into the proposition that trust begins with recognition.
