This article examines the intersections of sex and religion and provides suggestions for addressing these topics with clients. Potential clinical manifestations due to internal and/or external conflict with sex and religion are identified, as well as individual variations that impact the degree to which a conflict might be experienced. Assessment methods and interventions that may be appropriate for clinical application are proposed. A case example demonstrates the application of assessment and intervention within therapy. Finally, we present future considerations for counselors engaging in therapeutic work around sex and religion.
