This paper takes a critical look at the recent ‘greening’ of housing. The implications of contemporary environmental perspectives for housing are assessed. An alternative framework that examines housing from an eco‐socialist position is proposed. This perspective implies a convergence of the production and consumption spheres that enables people to become housing ‘prosumers’.
