A quantum-mechanical master equation approach to the spontaneous emission from a two-level atom in the presence of a strong pump field is reported. Access is available to both a one-photon treatment and a treatment incorporating photon cascades. A peak height ratio of 3:1 for the complete many photon approach is reduced to 2:1 in a one-photon approximation. Broadening of the sidebands is also lost through this approximation.
