Munro Professor of Political Science and Sociology, and Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace, Stanford University. He is also co-editor of Public Opinion magazine and is the current (1981–1982) President of the American Political Science Association. Before moving to Stanford, he was the George D. Markham Professor of Government and Sociology at Harvard University. He received his Ph.D. from Columbia University, where he worked with Paul F. L.azarsfeld, Robert S. Lynd, and Robert K. Merton.
