A simple technique for measuring raindrop size and distribution is presented. This technique, the Oil Method, has the advantage of being a direct measurement technique that requires no calibration and no special equipment except a camera. The authors found the technique to be easy to use both in the laboratory and in the field. Examples of the use of the method for determining the raindrop characteristics of simulated and natural rainfall are presented
